Import of vehicles  are not liable to VAT.  However, the import VAT together with NBT, Cess, Customs Duty and Ports and Airport Development Levy on such imports are replaced with an Excise (Special Provisions) Duty by 2015 budget proposals. Still, VAT and NBT would have to be charged at the point of sale on the total cost of the vehicle.
